Reflection - Themes for Pentecost:

The Mass readings for Pentecost clearly emphasize the role of the Holy Spirit. Through the Spirit’s gifts, we are empowered to share the message of Jesus Christ with the world. This important day marks the birth of the Church and is celebrated 50 days after Easter, signifying the end of the Easter season.


• The Holy Spirit’s role in the inception and growth of the Church: In the first reading from Acts, the Holy Spirit descended upon the apostles, enabling them to speak in different languages and leading to the conversion of thousands. This event marked the beginning of the Church, and the Holy Spirit continued to play a vital role in its growth and development.

• The diverse gifts given by the Holy Spirit for the benefit of the Church: In the second reading for Pentecost Year A, Paul emphasizes the importance of the various gifts given by the Holy Spirit, such as prophecy, healing, and teaching, among others. These gifts are meant to be used for the benefit of the entire body of Christ and to build up the Church.

• The unity of the Church as one body in Christ through the Holy Spirit: Paul compares the Church to a human body, made up of many parts that work together to function as one body. In the same way, the Church is a unified body in Christ through the Holy Spirit, with each member playing a unique role in building up the Church.

• The power of the Holy Spirit to empower believers for Christ’s work in the world: In the Gospel reading for Pentecost Year A, Jesus breathes on his disciples, giving them the gift of the Holy Spirit and commissioning them to continue his work of forgiveness and reconciliation in the world. Through the Holy Spirit, believers are empowered to do the work of Christ and to spread the gospel message to all nations.

• The message of forgiveness and reconciliation through Christ, empowered by the Holy Spirit: In the Gospel reading, Jesus commissions his disciples to forgive sins, emphasizing the message of forgiveness and reconciliation that is central to the gospel message. This message is empowered by the Holy Spirit, who gives believers the power to share this message and to continue the work of Christ in the world.

Prayer for Peace

Bishops invite all people to work for peace and justice and ask Catholics to join them in ‘redoubling’ prayers. We are asked by the Bishops of England and Wales to continue to pray for peace and justice and are invited to say the following prayer as part of our prayers. Prayer for Peace of Pope Saint John XXIII Lord Jesus Christ, who are called the Prince of Peace, who are yourself our peace and reconciliation, who so often said, “Peace to you,” grant us peace. Make all men and women witnesses of truth, justice, and brotherly love. Banish from their hearts whatever might endanger peace. Enlighten our rulers that they may guarantee and defend the great gift of peace. May all peoples of the earth become as brothers and sisters. May longed-for peace blossom forth and reign always over us all.  Amen

Diocese Safeguarding Team

Since 2024 the Diocese Safeguarding Team have been holding a "Safeguarding Café" every month. These dropin sessions allow anyone to pop in and have a chat about administrative matters, concerns, or to simply find out more. This month the team will be holding their Café at The Most Holy Trinity Parish Room, New Street, HR8 2EE from 11:00 am - 1:00 pm (May 28th). Why not pop in for a coffee and a chat? Vocations Sunday

A Pastoral Letter from Archbishop Mark: Archbishop Mark has written a pastoral letter to the Archdiocese of Cardiff-Menevia, inviting all unmarried men who feel God may be calling them to the priesthood to take a first step in discernment. He invites every unmarried man who is open to this call to join him for Evening Prayer at St David's Cathedral, Cardiff, on Sunday 31st May at 3:30pm, followed by an opportunity to meet with the Archbishop and others exploring the same vocation. Parish of Gorseinon 59 Club

This is a reminder that the payment for the 59 Club is now due for a further year. Payments should be made by standing order or by Cheque for £48. Cheques being made payable to ‘parish of Gorseinon’. Cash payments are also acceptable. The draw takes place on the first Saturday of the month with the bonus ball from the National Lottery and the winner receives £50.
